3 Tips For Painting Like A Professional

Blog

Does the inside of your home need a new coat of paint, and do you want to try doing it yourself? If so, you'll want to know the following tips that will help you paint like a professional when it comes to quality and speed.

Use The Right Equipment

There are times when it is appropriate to use a paint sprayer and other times when it is appropriate to use a roller. You'll want to know when it's the right time to use both of these tools. If you are painting a room where the carpet is going to be removed and you can deal with the overspray, then it may be worth using a paint sprayer. If you are trying to cut down on the mess you make, then a roller will be a better option to cover a large section of walls.

It's also important to buy the right type of roller. A roller with a very short nap is going to cause paint to splatter when you apply the paint to the wall. However, a very thick roller can create a look that you don't like, with the paint not looking smooth. Try to find a balance between these two that will cut down on the mess and create a look you love.

Use The Right Paint

The type of paint that you purchase can also make a big difference. Cheap paints tend to be watery and translucent, which causes the paint to not stick to the wall that well and creates the need for multiple coats. Paying for high-quality paint will cause less paint to splatter and cover the wall better. It has a higher upfront cost, but you'll end up using much less paint.

Know The Right Rolling Technique

There is a technique for using a roller that you may not be aware of. It's important to go from the ceiling to the wall so that the entire surface is covered. This allows the paint to look even on the wall since you are not going back and partially painting over dry paint.

You should load your roller up with paint and place it in the middle of the wall over a short section so that the wall is saturated. Then you can run the roller up and down over the wall to cover it from top to bottom. Placing the paint in the middle of the walls will prevent that really saturated roller from touching the top of the wall, which can create a mess and now allow you to get close to the ceiling or the floor.
